Thai iced tea with cinnamon and milk

Evaporated milk is a creamy touch to the spicy flavor

A creamy iced tea, with some spicy hints. An iced tea recipe for all chai fans. Only a couple of spices, but enough to make a delicious impact. This is a delightful recipe for a get-together.

  • 6 cups water
  • 8 tea bags, black
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 4 tbs sugar
  • 4 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tsp cardamom
  • Ice, crushed

Boil the water and steep tea bags with cardamom for 5 minutes. Strain out teabags and let cool. Put ice into 4 glasses, and add tea. Leave about a quarter of the glass empty. To each glass add, 1 tbs sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 cup of milk. Serves 6 to 8.

A mix of zesty spices gives this iced tea an unexpected bundle of taste.

An iced tea, spiced with cloves and allspice. Basically, another variation of an iced chai tea. Spicy doesn’t have to mean hot. This recipe will still cool you down, but with some kick.

  • 3 tbs loose tea
  • 4 cups water
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 12 allspice berries
  • 1 2-inch cinnamon stick
  • Lemon wedges

Pour water into a saucepan and bring to a simmer with tea, cloves, allspice and cinnamon. Steep the mix for about 5 minutes. Strain out all the spices and tea leaves, and then put in the fridge to chill thoroughly. Serve this spiced ice tea with lemon wedges, over ice. Serves 4 people.

A traditional holiday favorite, mulled tea with red wine. A bit of spicy cloves and cinnamon make this a very sophisticated hot tea cocktail. An alternative to mulled cider.

  • 1 cup strong tea
  • 5 tbs sugar
  • 2 cups red wine
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Rind of 1 lemon

Boil the tea, lemon rind, sugar, cinnamon and cloves together until the sugar dissolves. Add the red wine and bring to a boil. Strain out cinnamon stick and the rind. You may need to add more sugar, to taste. Serve with a slice of lemon.

You can customize any plain eggnog now

This isn’t a recipe for eggnog, but a wonderful blend of liqueurs and spices that you can use to spike plain store-bought eggnog.

  • 2 cups bourbon
  • 1 cup dark rum
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 1 vanilla bean, halved
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 2 large cinnamon sticks
  • 7 whole cloves

Mix all the liqueurs together, and then scrape out the vanilla seeds into the mixture. Break up the nutmeg and mix that in along with the cinnamon and cloves. Cover the container and let it steep for a few days before using. Strain out the spice pieces and add to eggnog. It’s quite strong so the 4 cups this makes should spike a lot of eggnog.

A sweet way to have your coffee, with the added flavors of spicy cinnamon and hint of chocolate.

  • 1 1/2 cups coffee, hot
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 4 tsp chocolate syrup

Add a teaspoon of chocolate syrup to the bottom of 4 small cups. Stir together cream, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, all the nutmeg and sugar. Whip until you have soft peaks.

Stir remaining cinnamon into the hot coffee. Pour coffee into cups and stir to blend with the chocolate. Top with spiced whipped cream.

Cooked eggs are a little safer around the holidays for family-friendly eggnog

This is another large recipe for a group. I’ll bet your next family get-together would be perfect. There are no raw eggs or alcohol, so its great for everyone.

  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Beat eggs and sugar together, then mix in 2 cups of milk. In a saucepan, heat mixture until it starts to get thick and will lightly coat the back of a spoon. Don’t leave it alone on the stove and stir continually.

Once thickened, take it off the heat and stir in remaining milk and vanilla. Let it chill and then serve with a sprinkling of nutmeg and cinnamon on top.

Chocolate syrup dissolves quickly for easy iced coffee

Instant coffee and chocolate syrup mean that this recipe can be whipped up quickly. It’s simple and easy, and refreshing.

  • 1 tbs instant coffee crystals
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 tbs chocolate syrup
  • 1 cup ice water

Add coffee crystals and ground cinnamon to hot water and stir until completely dissolved. Add chocolate syrup and whisk until blended.

Refrigerate until chilled through, then add cold water. Stir and serve your mocha over ice. Serves 2.

Another lightly spiced coffee with a citrus twist

This quick recipe has all the ingredients coming together before you actually brew your coffee. How convenient. The anise and orange add a noticeable tropical flavour to your coffee. 

  • 3 tbs ground coffee (coarse)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp anise seed (whole)
  • Pinch of dried orange peel pieces

Blend ingredients, and brew by your favorite method. Using a french press or a plunger pot is the traditional brewing style for this coffee recipe.

Makes enough coffee for about 4 cups.
